Matt is a great example of the entrepreneurial spirit. He has certainly learned from his
mistakes. He states that he failed when
he was trying to make money, and succeeded when he was focused on the
mission. He attributes his value system
and learning integrity from losing his job while finishing his college
degree. He had to pick up the pieces,
and find a new direction. This changed
his whole outlook on business. I
appreciate his words of caution to stay focused in our core competencies, and
control the inner marketer. He says that
there are opportunities that we often pursue that we should have just left
alone. If we stay in our core
competency, we can stay focused and find “new light” in what we are doing. My favorite though he shared was “Success
comes because people are learning – profit comes because people are focused on
anything but the profits.”
